Chhattisgarh Teacher Suspended After Viral Video Shows Wrong English Spellings
A government primary school in Kogwar village, located in the Wadrafnagar block of Balrampur district, Chhattisgarh, has come under sharp criticism after a video surfaced showing a teacher writing incorrect English spellings on the classroom blackboard. The incident, recorded on 18 November 2025, quickly spread online and triggered widespread debate about the condition of basic education in rural schools.
The teacher seen writing the incorrect spellings has been identified as Praveen Toppo. In the video, he teaches the days of the week but writes them incorrectly, including “Sanday” for Sunday and “Wensday” for Wednesday. In another lesson on body parts, he wrote “Noge” for nose, “Eare” for ear, and “Iey” for eye. Students, unaware of the mistakes, copied them directly into their notebooks.
Local villagers said this was not the first time such issues were noticed. According to them, the school has 42 students and only two teachers, making proper teaching difficult. They also complained many times to the education department and the local Panchayat, but no action was taken earlier.
Reports also mention allegations against the second teacher, Kamlesh Pando, who villagers claim often comes to school under the influence of alcohol and fails to teach properly. These complaints further increased public anger after the video went viral.
Following the controversy, the Education Department took immediate action and suspended Praveen Toppo. Officials have announced that a detailed inquiry has started, and strict action will be taken based on the findings.
