Heena Choudhary, a young girl from Lammer village in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, has become a symbol of determination and inspiration. She created history by becoming the first Gujjar girl from Kulgam to qualify NEET, one of India’s toughest medical entrance exams.
Her journey was not easy. She faced two failed attempts, but instead of giving up, she tried again. On her third attempt, she finally cleared the exam, scoring 389 marks and securing a rank of over 2400 in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
The ST quota played an important role in her success. Belonging to a marginalized community where opportunities are often limited, the reservation gave her a fair chance to compete at the national level. It ensured that despite facing social and educational disadvantages, her hard work and talent did not go unnoticed.
Still, it was not just the quota—it was her hard work, patience, and perseverance that made the real difference. Heena studied with dedication, often against the odds, and proved that dreams can be achieved with consistent effort.
Her success has not only brought pride to her family and community but has also become a source of hope for other girls in marginalized sections of society. She has shown that while support systems like reservations open the door, it is hard work and determination that take you across the finish line.
